Water Restrictions
Melburnians have done a great job saving water in the face of record-low flows into our dams. Per person, we’re using almost 40% less water compared with the 1990s.
Stage 3a Water Restrictions are currently in place. Here’s a summary of what that means for households:
Residential gardens
HOW
- Hand watering – hose with trigger nozzle only, between 6am-8am on allocated watering days
- Manual dripper systems – between 6-8am, only on allocated watering days
- Automatic dripper systems – between midnight and 2am, only on allocated watering days
WHEN
- Even-numbered properties - Saturday and Tuesday
- Odd-numbered properties - Sunday and Wednesday
- Where this is no number, the property is considered even-numbered
- No watering on Monday, Thursday or Friday
Note: Rainwater and greywater can be used anytime.
Car washing
- A bucket, filled directly from a tap can be used to clean windows, mirrors and lights; and spot-remove corrosive substances.
- An efficient commercial car wash that uses 70 litres of water or less per vehicle can be used.
Pools and spas
- A new pool or spa of any size capacity cannot be filled with drinking water.
- However, a new or existing swimming pool or spa may be filled with an alternative water source such as groundwater.
