Waterway Diverters

We manage the taking of surface water from rivers, creeks and dams in the Yarra River, Lower Maribyrnong River and Western tributary catchments. This water is used for a variety of agricultural, industrial, commercial and domestic purposes and is managed according to the licensing requirements of the Water Act 1989.

Water taken from the Yarra catchment, Stony Creek, Kororoit Creek, Laverton Creek and Skeleton Creek is from unregulated river systems. Water from the Maribyrnong River is from both unregulated and regulated river flows, via releases made to the river from Rosslynne Reservoir at Gisborne.

We work closely with water users to develop sustainable plans that balance the needs of all users and the environment. Access to water is managed in accordance with our Drought Response Plan, Stream Flow Management Plans and local management rules where applicable.

We also monitor dam safety requirements as outlined in the Water Act 1989.
