Planning Schemes
Melbourne Water, in consultation with local councils, carries out extensive flood mapping for the 1 in 100 year flood. This flood mapping information is incorporated into local council planning schemes, where it appears as a planning scheme overlay (or flooding overlay).
Including flooding overlays in council planning schemes means that we can set conditions on proposed developments in areas affected by flooding to minimise the risk to people and property.
